Hi Sunday friends!
This has been a rough week for me. You may or may not know (depending if youāre an e-mail subscriber or follow me on Instagram) Mr. FFF left last Sunday to start clinicals for 2 years.
Which means he will not be living with me for TWO YEARS. For the first 7 months he is only 2 hours away, so we can see each other weekends, but we have no idea what the last year and a half will hold. It could be as far as IDAHO. Soooā¦I would never see him.
Being alone all week, especially sleeping alone, has been REALLY hard. But, I do think this is going to be a time that really allows me to lean on the Lord and grow my faith!
But, thatās not what I wanted to write about today. Today, I want to write about applying the Old Testament to our lives.
In my own life, I know Iāve personally sometimes thought that the Old Testament doesnāt really apply to us this day in age. Aside from obvious things like the 10 Commandments. These still apply of course.
But, Iāve sometimes thought āoh this was SO BACK IN THE DAY and things are JUST SO MUCH DIFFERENT now, so this doesnāt really apply to me.ā
Mr. FFF and I are doing the Bible in a year and we just finished Leviticus (that is a bit of a rough book isnāt it?!) and weāre in Numbers, so these thoughts have been going strong lately as Iāve been doing my reading.
But, this past week I read Numbers 9 about how the Israelites set out when the cloud lifted from the tabernacle and camped when it covered it.
Numbers 9: 17-20 says: ā17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped. 18 At the Lordās command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained in camp.19 When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lordās order and did not set out. 20 Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lordās command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out.”
When I read this, I was in awe about how the Israelites went when God went and stayed when He stayed. When He stayed awhile, they stayed too. They trusted him.
It hit me then. The Old Testament still totally applies to our lives today ā we can all do better at going when God tells us to go, staying when He wants us to stay (even if itās longer than we want) for example. Itās just about digging deeper and understanding other ways that we can read scripture between the lines ā not just word for word.
Iām not saying we should twist the meaning, that is not the kind of reading between the lines I am talking about.
But, I think that really digging into a scripture that we may think āoh this isnāt for meā or āthis isnāt applicableā and trying to see it in the light of 2018 and our lives can be really valuable. Itās in those moments when God, and His Word, really come to life. At least for me.
Anyway, I hope youāre able to get some good nuggets of truth from the Word where you maybe werenāt able to before!
Happy Sunday!

I totally agree, there is so much we can glean from the OT. I love the Life Application Bible for that…it makes me aware of lessons I might not have picked up on otherwise.
I will be praying for you and Mr. FFF. May absence make your hearts grow fonder…of the Lord, and each other. ā¤ļø
